The Voyage of St. Brendan

The voyage of St. Brendan must have been a tough one.  He, St. Brendna,  along with other monks took off from the Kerry coast sometime in the 6th centuary on a self built currach made using wattle and covered with cow hide.  They arrived in Iceland and then onto American where it's believed they landed in Virginia.  And all this is in a small boat!  Of course they had to make the journey back too.  It took them 7 years altogether.

This depiction on slate shows only 5 monks but it is said that there were about 14 of them altogether.  What an incredible feat!!
